A crowd of about 400 people attended the Day of the Covenant ceremony at the Groote Schuur Estate in 1976, including numerous women in Voortrekker costume. The service was led by Dr A. J. G. Dreyer. Professor D. J. Kotze, of the faculty of history at the University of Stellenbosch, was the main speaker.
