New national road into Cape Town begins to take shape: This aerial view from above the contour plough-lines on the Bellville hills shows the wide, white ribbon which is the path of the new national-road approach to Cape Town. The road, now being made, will have double-width traffic lanes and the route will by-pass the populous areas of Parow and Goodwood, seen on the left, as well as Wingfield airport. The new highway will open up a vast area of as yet undeveloped country.

An aerial view of the new Civic Centre which is being occupied by the office workers from all over Cape Town in one of the biggest furniture moving operations of all time for the city. The Civic Centre is the tall, dark building to the left of the picture. In the left foreground is the Nico Malan complex, while in the right foreground is the Cape Town Centre. Behind is the Paul Sauer Building which houses the railway headquarters for the Western Cape. Right behind this building is the overall deck of the railway station.

Killarney - Blouberg road is in the foreground of this picture. Within two years or so there will be a new arterial road from Milnerton to Blouberg skirting the Rietvlei area (centre). There are plans to turn Rietvlei, largely dry in summer, into a bird sanctuary.

The view of Cape Town, looking in a south-easterly direction, is another of the series taken by The Argus photographer from the top of recently completed 300ft. chimney at the Dock-Road power station. In the centre of the picture are the railway motor transport sheds and marshalling yards, and to the right of them monument station, the goods yards and part of the main station. The Grand Boulevard, which is planned as the main road link with the southern suburbs, will join Adderley Street at the extreme left of the picture, and where the fun fair appears in the photograph, the 1,000,000 Van Riebeeck Hotel will be built.

Sites have been cleared for Cape Town's new railway station and the £1,180,000 S.A. Railways administrative block. They are being built on the seaward side of the present station, shown in this aerial photograph. Dominating the Foreshore is the £3,158,00 Culemborg goods terminal and sheds.

Aerial view of the Foreshore in Cape Town shows the Monumental Park in the foreground, on which the opera house is to be built, flanked on the left by the industrial buildings close to the Culemborg goods yards and on the right by the Sanlam Centre and the new Medipark building. The new station complex and the Paul Sauer Railways Administration building can be seen in the open space between the station, and the Monumental Park is the site for the new Cape Civic Centre.
