Map shows towns, farm boundaries, farm names, farm registration numbers, farms under the jurisdiction of Mining Commissioners, roads, railways, postal routes, custom houses, postal and telegraph information, proclaimed gold fields, mynpachten, kraals and "locations", mountains and rivers. The map also shows portions of the Orange Free State, the Cape Colony, Natal [KwaZulu-Natal], Rhodesia [Zimbabwe], Zululand, Tongaland, the British Protectorate [Botswana] and Portuguese territory [Mozambique]., Relief shown by shading., "The compilers are greatly indebted to Johann Rissik Esq. Surveyor General of the S.A.R. for much valuable information and advice.", "The Freestate portion of the map is reduced from Herfst's map of the O.Freestate. Swaziland is compiled from actual surveys and Miller's map.", Photographic reproduction of the map published: London : Edward Stanford Ltd., 1899., Bar scale of main map in English statute miles., Inset maps include: 'Plan of Johannesburg and surrounding suburbs and townships reduced from "Pritchard's commercial map of J'hburg"' and 'Plan of Pretoria suburbs and surrounding grounds, reduced from original plan compiled in the Surveyor General's Office, Pretoria, S.A.R.'
