Layers of salt build up on a dried and cracked pan. After the rains, the water builds up and the salt is drawn out of the earth. Once the water evaporates, in the hot Kalahari heat, the salt is left encrusted on the cracked earth.Images from this trip document the first excursions into the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and were a central part of the work on oral history and mapping in the first years of research.
