Description
Probably the only school in the Union with a six-inch naval gun in a classroom is Robben Island's Primary School - it used to be an artillery training school. Mr J.J. Havenga, principal, is seen here with a group of pupils. Mr Havenga, who has been on Robben Island since the beginning of the year, said: "My wife and I have grown to love the island." The school has 70 pupils. Many of those in the picture will be at school on the mainland next year.
