This old post office stone is probably one of the oldest found in the country. It was dug up on the Golden Acre site yesterday and is being examined by South African Museum officials. There are inscriptions on both sides of the stone and the date which looks like 1577. The name of a ship is also vaguely discernible. Mr Victor Thompson, seen here, is a carpenter working on the site. He spotted the stone in sand being excavated.
