Professor Francis Wilson (left), director of the Southern Africa Labour and Development Research Unit (SALDRU), hands over a research paper to Mr Super Nkathzo and Mr Johnson Mpukumpa (right and far right), who represent the Western Cape Men's Hotel Association. The newly-formed association, to be launched today, commissioned SALDRU to research the paper which will be used in its campaign for improved living conditions for hostel residents. Next to Professor Wilson is Mr Mandla Seleoane, author of the paper.

Magdalena Kassie, Antjie Kassie's daughter, conducts linguistic research for the South African San Institute (SASI). Here she is collecting data from an unidentified member of the San community. Magdalena Kassie played a pivotal role in promoting the language to San youth and the wider public. She passed away in 2010.
