Two student demos: University of Cape Town students held a demonstration alongside Rhodes Drive yesterday afternoon, in which about 60 people held placards numbering from 0 to 100, and a banner stating the number of days still remaining in the bannings of the Nusas leaders. This demonstration - and one earlier yesterday on Thibault Square, Cape Town, in which eight students took part - were to mark the 100th day since the banning of the Nusas leaders and the presence of police on the university campus on June 7 last year. Public reaction to the demonstrations varied. In the square the demonstrators - who had received permission from the Executive Committee of the City Council and the Chief Magistrate, to stage their stand - were, on the whole, largely ignored. On Rhodes Drive some motorists expressed their approval by hooting, cheering and waving; other motorists booed and made signs of disapproval.
