The charred ruins of the old Camps Bay pavilion stands today as a sad monument after a fire ripped through the 57-year-old building early today. It destroyed the equipment and the dreams of the Camps Bay Operatic and Dramatic Society and one of Cape Town's best-known landmarks. Damage is estimated at thousands of rands and the City Council's Amenities Committee is expected to look over the ruins during a scheduled tour of Camps Bay tomorrow.

The new R300,000 printing press which is to be installed in the Cape Times building in Burg Street. It is expected that it will be in operation before the end of the year. The new press is capable of producing a 32 page newspaper, four pages of which will take three superimposed colours, and four other pages which will take one superimposed colour. This picture was taken at Hoe & Crabtree's works in London where the press was assembled and test run prior to shipment.
