Description: Photocopy of plan of Cape Town from Gentleman's Walk. Cape Town : Struik, 1968; by H.W.J. Picard (see BA 968.21 PICA), page 89., A note on the map suggests that the original was a plan which claimed to be dated 1785. However the plan includes the only cartographic evidence that St. George's Street (originally Berg Street), was once called Venus Straat (between 1790-1791). Picard therefore dismisses the possibility of 1785 being correct. The original cartographer is not identified.
