Five Bonteheuwel pupils were taken to hospital and at least 16 others treated by doctors after being sjambokked by police at Arcadia Senior Secondary School. Police denied pupils were injured. A policeman was slightly injured by a stone, SAP liaison officer Lieutenant Attie Laubscher said. He said police sjambokked pupils in the school grounds and stopped doing so when the pupils entered the building. Police searched the classrooms for placards, he said.
