During the 2005 Cultural Week in the Kalahari, San community members from Botswana and South Africa (including Buks Kruiper and Dawid Malgas) were invited to make crafts and demonstrate tracking, hunting and other activities. Here, San people demonstrate the healing dance know as |qû. The elders are dressed in pants and shirts dancing with the ǂKhomani dance group. The dance is intended to assist in the healing of sick individuals. Traditionally men would dance while the women and children would sing and clap. The men occasionally go into a trance and enter the spirit world where the ancestors would guide them in the healing.

An area known as Xausendi meaning "diarrhoea". The pans in this region have water that causes bad stomach cramps and diarrhoea. The bad water discourages animals from congregating here which reduces the number of predators.Images from this trip document the first excursions into the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and were a central part of the work on oral history and mapping in the first years of research.
