Rondebosch Common: the clump of trees in the middle marks the site of Barnabas Shais Tabernacle and two graveyards. The aerial view of Rondebosch Common shows many of the places mentioned by Jose Burman in his article. A: The Camp Ground Road, flanked by a long strip of stone-pines. B: Park Road, running along the south side of the common. C: The newly built Milner Road North, completed in spite of the protests of lovers of the common. D: The group of pines which marks the place where the old chapel known as the Tabernacle once stood (there were also two graveyards there). E: The Red Cross Children's Hospital. F: The Rustenburg Girls' High School. The network of paths revealed by this photograph is hardly noticeable from the ground.

A mosaic of concrete and glass formed by modern buildings in the central business district of Cape Town. This aerial view of the city was taken form the foot of the Heerengracht looking up Adderley Street towards the Public Gardens. The city centre today [seems to be] sprouting cars in beds of tar. ...must plan to remove the traffic circle on the Heerengracht, says the City Engineer. And he asks: Is it the best civic layout?'

New national road into Cape Town begins to take shape: This aerial view from above the contour plough-lines on the Bellville hills shows the wide, white ribbon which is the path of the new national-road approach to Cape Town. The road, now being made, will have double-width traffic lanes and the route will by-pass the populous areas of Parow and Goodwood, seen on the left, as well as Wingfield airport. The new highway will open up a vast area of as yet undeveloped country.
