These interviews present a discussion on missionary schooling in Calvinia, South Africa, the characters and their memories of the Anglo-Boer War. Themes include: Boers, the relationship between the British troops and the missionaries, the community of Calvinia, key figures such as Hugo Nieuwoudt, a Boer leader and Abraham Esau, memories of the Esau murder, National Party meeting, political tensions, racial aggression and tension and trade relations. Abraham Esau was a coloured blacksmith and leader from Calvinia.
