This case study in Windermere/Kensington in the Western Cape focuses on the coloured residents of the area and examines the socio-political environment and racial/gender discrimination with regards to alcohol under apartheid policies. Themes include: discriminatory laws, government policy, housing, racialised spaces and the smuggling of alcohol by residents and shebeens (a bar, predominately in the townships where alcohol is sold).
