Description: Singqokwana Malgas was an African National Congress (ANC) veteran who had been imprisoned on Robben Island for fourteen years. While he was in prison, Malgas's house had been repeatedly firebombed and one of his sons had been killed. At the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) he described his ordeal of torture at the hands of the security police. Malgas told the TRC that he would like to tell his torturers, 'If we were only going to get freedom over our dead bodies, I'd like to make them aware we've got freedom.'
