The days of Cape Town's "two-penny bumpers" were recalled today when workmen in Strand Street started to unearth about 300 yards of tramline. The picture shows the men at work in the stretch of road between Long and Buitengracht Streets, where it is planned to erect traffic islands. It was found that the roads' crown was too high at this point. It will take about a month to complete the work.
