A map showing the proposed extension of the Malmesbury railway line from the Kalabas Kraal Station, passing close to Hopefield, crossing the Great Berg River, through Piquetberg and ending close to Grey's Pass, with farms, rivers, roads and commonage. The map shows Malmesbury and the villages of Darling, Hopefield, Piquetberg and Porterville, and covers the field cornetcies of Groene Kloof West, Groene Kloof East, Middel Zwartland, Voor Riebeeks Kasteel, Zwartland and Zout Rivier. The proposed railway stations are: Michiel Heyns Kraal, Klipfontein, Darling, Cochara, Uilenkraal, Hopefield, Rondekuil, Visschers Kraal, Middel Kraal, Wittewater, Piquetberg, Meintjes Kraal, Elands Vlei, Dwars in de Weg, Eendekuil and The Rest. Some colour. Scale 1/2 inch to 1 mile. Scale 1 2/8 inch to 1000 Cape roods.

The Old Sea Point Train: The old Sea Point train which used to run from Monument Station at the foot of Adderley Street along the Beach Front to the terminus near Queen's Road, is here seen passing under the bridge which took pedestrians to the old pavilion which was later demolished. Its tea room is seen on the left. The return fare from Cape Town to Sea Point on this train which was opened in September, 1892, was only 9d. This railway closed down on April 1929. The old Sea Point train which operated from September, 1892 until April, 1929.

Escaping the danger ... A panic-stricken passenger, fearing for his safety, jumps from a moving train as it approaches Nonkqubela railway station, shortly after it sliced through a pile of burning tyres placed on the railway line. Witnesses said the screams of terrified passengers could be heard some distance from the train as it entered the pall of black smoke.

The map also indicates the neighbouring British Bechaunaland Protectorate, German South West Africa, Basuto Land, and Portuguese Territory but no railway routes are shown in these territories. Also indicated are rivers, lakes, the Atlantic Ocean to the west and the Indian Ocean to the east. The reference key points to the "Cape Government Railways & Lines administered by the Cape Government", "Other Railways", and [railways] "under construction authorised or proposed"., An inset map in the bottom right corner shows Cape Town and surroundings as well as detailed railway routes as far as Kalabas Kraal, Malan, French Hoek [Franschhoek] and Caledon., A small section of the top left side of the map has been torn off but no image or text is affected. Aerial view shows the progress on the new R13.9m. Cape Town Railway Station. Cape Town's new railway station takes shape: This aerial view shows how work is progressing on the new R13.9m. Cape Town railway station. Five main-line platforms will be brought into service towards the end of next year and the non-White main-line station building will be opened at the same time. The station as a whole will not be finished till 1965.The lettered structures in the picture are: A - The bridge which will link Eastern Boulevard with Hertzog Boulevard on the Foreshore. B - Part of the Culemborg goods yard offices. C - The signal cabin for the new station. D - The Pirow Street bridge. E - The parcels building, which has been in use since May 1. F - Canopies over some of the new main-line platforms. G - Canopies over suburban line platforms. H - The communications building. I - Parts of the deck. The striped area indicates the full extent to be decked. J - The existing station. K - The non-White main-line station building. L - The Castle. M - The New Drill Hall which, with other military buildings next to it, will disappear to make way for part of the traffic interchange linking with the Pirow Street bridge. N - The Sir Lowry Road market, now in process of demolition. Much of its site will be used for traffic interchanges serving the Eastern Boulevard and Pirow Street bridges.
