Said Colin: "It was the first opportunity I had to talk with Basil since his selection for the tour." D'Oliveira, in London after a cricket holiday in the West Country, said: "When the skipper telephoned to congratulate me on my selection he invited me to drop in for a meal when I was next in London to talk over the tour. We both still very much hope that a way may be found for the tour to continue." Said Colin: "I live in hope."
