Cape Town railway station. Five main-line platforms will be brought into service towards the end of next year and the non-White main-line station building will be opened at the same time. The station as a whole will not be finished till 1965.The lettered structures in the picture are: A - The bridge which will link Eastern Boulevard with Hertzog Boulevard on the Foreshore. B - Part of the Culemborg goods yard offices. C - The signal cabin for the new station. D - The Pirow Street bridge. E - The parcels building, which has been in use since May 1. F - Canopies over some of the new main-line platforms. G - Canopies over suburban line platforms. H - The communications building. I - Parts of the deck. The striped area indicates the full extent to be decked. J - The existing station. K - The non-White main-line station building. L - The Castle. M - The New Drill Hall which, with other military buildings next to it, will disappear to make way for part of the traffic interchange linking with the Pirow Street bridge. N - The Sir Lowry Road market, now in process of demolition. Much of its site will be used for traffic interchanges serving the Eastern Boulevard and Pirow Street bridges.
