Formal Garden - Planting Plan: this hand-drawn, technical working drawing, using pen and ink on tracing paper, shows the detailed planting plan of a proposed formal parterre garden, aligned on the side steps leading from the kitchen of the manor house of the historic Groot Contantia Wine Estate, Groot Constantia Road, Cape Town, South Africa. This historic monument will soon be resplendent with posh plaster and brightly coloured woodwork.

Picture history of Mother City - "Cape Town down the years", the Cape Times photographic exhibition, is to be officially opened by the Mayor of Cape Town, Mr John Tyers, at the Shell Gallery in Greenmarket Square on Wednesday, April 6. The exhibition, which consists of about 160 photographs, will remain open from April 7 to 29 as part of the Cape Town Festival. The gallery will be closed on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. The picture above was taken about 80 years ago in Adderley Street, when the first single-deck trams were introduced in the City. (Published 1 April, 1977)

Angermann, representative in Cape Town of the bell manufacturers.

Eighty years ago, about 1894, this is what the top of St. George's Street looked like, with the post office then occupying the site at the corner of Church Street later making way for the Cape Times Building, until in recent years it has been renamed Fairbairn Building. The double-storeyed building on the immediate right was re-built into the Argus Building. The handsome old St. George's Cathedral has long since been demolished.
