Description

During one of the early research trips to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, a trip was made to two adjacent grave sites near a former Bushmen settlement near Twee Rivieren. Several historically significant Bushmen are buried in these graveyards. While walking between these graveyards, the elders rest to catch their breath and the children play on the dunes.Images from this trip document the first excursions into the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and were a central part of the work on oral history and mapping in the first years of research.

Description
-
The old Opera House: many of Cape Town's senior citizens will remember the old Opera House which was opened in 1893 and demolished in 1937. It stood at the corner of Darling and Parliament Streets on the site presently occupied by the General Post Office and was built before the present Standard Bank Building was extended from Adderley Street through to Parliament Street (or Grave Street as it was then known). The Opera House Restaurant on the first floor was for many years one of the most popular eating-out establishments in Cape Town.

Beauty Spot: The old mill on De Waal Drive at Mowbray is one of the Cape's famed relics of earlier and probably one of most photographed tourist attractions in the Peninsula. But it will be a dexterous tourist indeed who will be able to photograph it this summer [...] the bristling barricade of electric standards which are being erected [...]t among the street-name signs and traffic bollards.
