Mr Deedat, head of the Islamic Propagation Centre International, also said that Christians who criticised calls for Rushdie's death were "hypocrites" with a faith that was "garbage". Mr Deedat, whose topic was "Should Rushdie Die? What is the Judeo-Christian Verdict?", said Islam demanded that blasphemers be "put on crosses to die a slow death" or that they "have their hands and feet chopped off".
