- Bill Kemp, doing basic research for the Strata maps with Jakob Malgas, holds a recorder into which he spoke his notes and information as it was gathered. Kemp made several trips to the park during the 1997-1999 investigation period. Images from this trip document the first excursions into the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and were a central part of the work on oral history and mapping in the first years of research.

Abraham Esau was a coloured blacksmith and leader from Calvinia.
