Description
-
The San used a North-South route through this area following the river bed, the dunes and the streets. This route connected many key sites within the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park with the former settlement. The ǂKhomani San used this site as a temporary camp while travelling through the area. The site can not sustain a permanent campsite as all the water in the area is salt water. The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is home to a number of abandoned buildings and structures which are now used as tourist attractions and lookout posts for travellers. Images from this trip document the first excursions into the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and were a central part of the work on oral history and mapping in the first years of research.
