The Grand Boulevard, which is planned as the main road link with the southern suburbs, will join Adderley Street at the extreme left of the picture, and where the fun fair appears in the photograph, the 1,000,000 Van Riebeeck Hotel will be built.

The new highway will open up a vast area of as yet undeveloped country.
