Description: Thousands of township residents, like this family, last night turned off their lights and held a candlelight vigil in front of their homes, shops and garages in sympathy with all those in detention, those killed during the unrest and as a protest against the state of emergency. Some people had candles inside their cars and hooted as they drove. A spokesman for the Athlone People's Action Committee said last night that the call for the vigil had been 90 to 100 percent successful.
