This case study in Langa in the Western Cape examines the socio-political environment and racial/gender discrimination with regards to alcohol under apartheid policies. Forças Armadas Angolanan (FAA) troops search oil installations in Soyo, Angola, for União Nacional para a Independência Total de Angola (UNITA) commanders. On 20 January 1993 UNITA forces overan and then destroyed the town. This action shook the oil world and prompted English oil barons to recruit a mercenary force that retook the town from UNITA.
