Map shows Africa, the southern part of Europe, Middle East and Madagascar, as well as the islands surrounding Africa. The elaborate cartouche depicts a woman wearing a headdress of peacock feathers sitting with a child on the banks of a river. Also depicted is a second child astride a lion, using a long thong to lead a large and reluctant bird. The artist, Phillip Tidemann, has added snakes, a crocodile, water birds, fruit, vegetation and severed elephant tusks. A note in the cartouche reads: "Cum privilegio potentissimorum D.D. ordinum Hollandie et Westfrisie"., Relief shown pictorially., Drawn by Phillip Tidemann; engraved by Gilliam van der Gouwen., Projection not given., The lower left corner of the map is missing and has been replaced by a photocopied fragment attached to the map by tissue paper.
